I saw my wrist surgeon last Monday, to check on my hardware and find out if my pain was being caused by hardware issues. The surgeon said the x-ray looked great: my hardware looked "brand-new, with no wear and tear or screws loosening". Oddly, the x-ray doctor report did say screws were loosening, but I'm inclined to trust my wrist surgeon here. ( Read more... )

Saw the wrist surgeon today. I've been told to stop wearing the splint, except for strenous activities (i.e., lifting cats). He said my wrist looks good. I asked about the swelling and range of motion expectations. He said it takes the hand about a year to fully recover from this surgery and that most of his patients get about 50 degrees of motion ( Read more... )

I just got 20 degrees going up! Only after almost an hour and a half of therapy, but there it is!

It turns out that we have both house finches *and* purple finches. I saw what was definitely a male house finch yesterday, and he was much less red than the other two finches I've seen. So, looks like we have some of both. That makes me happy ( Read more... )

I saw the other hand surgeon today, the one who does wrist replacements. He told me they last 8-10 years and can sometimes last up to 12. Then the replacement can either be replaced, fixed, or the wrist can be fused. So, I'll be going with the replacement, likely in a month or so. This, at least, is good news.

Just got back from seeing the surgeon. I can get my left wrist fused if I want to. He doesn't think I have avascular necrosis. He does want me to see the other surgeon, the only one in the state who does wrist replacements, before I make a decision though, which I agree with. So, that's good news. I see the other surgeon in 3 weeks, on the 28th.

So, that was pretty disappointing. I decided to belly dance since I hadn't for a while and since swimming hurts my left wrist. Well, apparently bellydancing hurts my left wrist too.
